country roads cross pastoral landscapes that reflect the natural beauty of Western Nevada County. Lush grassy meadows dotted with wildflowers, stunning views of the Sutter-Buttes from Big Oak Valley, the sparkling white water of the Yuba River, historic Bridgeport (the longest of only ten covered bridges remaining in California), spectacular sunsets and the sprawling Lake Englebright are just a few of the natural features that create the idyllic life style found in Penn Valley.

Although Penn Valley remains primarily rural in nature, there are newer modern homes, extensive horse ranches, and planned communities that coexist with older farm buildings. The school district is top rated Nevada Union School District and the business community continues to grow.
